GUELPH (Nov 28, 2006)Ignorance and complacency are the worst enemies of the Guelph Fire Department.
Ignorance for not knowing how to store household chemicals so they don’t start or feed a fire.
Ignorance for not thinking to blow out candles when you leave a room. Ignorance for falling asleep while dinner is simmering on the stove.
And complacency at assuming everything is fine in your home, but not checking to be sure.
“Fire safety is in people’s minds, for a while,” said Kim Hodgson, Chief Fire Prevention Officer for the Guelph Fire Department. “But then they become complacent.
“With fires, you can never let your guard down.”
